About this condition
Spondylolysis is a stress fracture or crack in one of the small bones (vertebrae) in the lower spine, often affecting athletes and people who do repetitive bending or twisting activities. The lumbar region is most commonly affected, particularly in the fifth lumbar vertebra. While some people have no symptoms, others experience lower back pain that worsens with activity and may radiate to the legs.
