About this condition

Sarcopenia is the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength that typically begins after age 50 and accelerates with aging. It causes weakness, slow movement, fatigue, and increased risk of falls and fractures. While common in older adults, it can be slowed through proper nutrition with adequate protein and regular resistance exercise.
