About this condition
Rheumatic mitral stenosis is a narrowing of the mitral valve in the heart caused by rheumatic fever, which is triggered by untreated strep throat infections. This narrowing makes it harder for blood to flow from the upper to lower chambers of the heart, leading to breathlessness, fatigue, and swelling.
