About this condition

A rare inherited metabolic disorder where the body cannot properly break down the amino acid tyrosine, leading to toxic buildup that damages the liver and kidneys. Newborns with this condition may show poor feeding, jaundice, and failure to gain weight. Early diagnosis through newborn screening and special diet can prevent serious complications.
