About this condition
Galactosemia is a rare inherited disorder where babies cannot properly break down galactose, a sugar found in milk. Newborns with this condition become sick after drinking breast milk or formula, developing jaundice, vomiting, and liver problems. Early diagnosis through newborn screening and lifelong avoidance of dairy products is essential to prevent serious complications like intellectual disability and liver damage.
