About this condition

This is a genetic condition where the thyroid gland cannot properly make thyroid hormones due to enzyme defects, leading to an enlarged thyroid (goiter) from birth or early childhood. Children with this condition may experience growth delays and developmental issues if not treated. Lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy is usually needed.
