About this condition
Atelectasis occurs when part or all of a lung collapses or doesn't inflate properly, reducing oxygen exchange. This commonly happens after surgery, prolonged bed rest, mucus plugging, or chest infections. Treatment focuses on deep breathing exercises, clearing secretions, and addressing the underlying cause to help the lung re-expand.
