About this condition

This is a sudden inflammation of the thyroid gland, usually caused by bacterial or viral infection, causing intense pain and swelling in the front of the neck. The condition can make swallowing difficult and cause fever along with tenderness when touching the throat area. Early antibiotic treatment is important to prevent complications.
