About this condition

Vascular parkinsonism occurs when small strokes or reduced blood flow to the brain cause symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease, including slow movement, stiffness, and walking difficulties. Unlike typical Parkinson's, this condition often affects the legs more than the hands and develops more suddenly. It is more common in people with diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
