About this condition
This is a stroke complication occurring in people with sickle-cell disease when abnormally shaped red blood cells block blood vessels in the brain. It causes sudden weakness, speech problems, or paralysis on one side of the body. Immediate emergency treatment is needed to prevent permanent brain damage.
