About this condition

This is a rare inherited disorder where the body cannot properly transport vitamin B12 from the intestines to cells, even though the vitamin is absorbed normally. It causes severe anemia, poor growth in children, developmental delays, and nervous system problems. Lifelong treatment with high-dose B12 injections is necessary and must be started early to prevent permanent damage.
