About this condition
Marasmic kwashiorkor is the most severe form of protein-energy malnutrition, combining features of both marasmus and kwashiorkor. Affected children are extremely thin with visible wasting but also show edema or swelling typical of kwashiorkor. This is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate medical attention with careful nutritional rehabilitation in a hospital setting.
