About this condition
First-degree sunburn occurs when the outer layer of skin is damaged by too much exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. The skin becomes red, painful and warm to touch but does not blister. Most cases heal within 3-5 days with home care including cooling the skin and applying moisturizer.
