About this condition
This extremely serious condition involves blockage of both back brain arteries simultaneously, cutting off blood supply to the entire vision processing center of the brain. This results in cortical blindness where the eyes work normally but the brain cannot process visual information, along with severe memory and recognition problems. This is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate intensive care to attempt to restore blood flow and prevent fatal brain swelling.
