About this condition

This is a rare inherited immune deficiency disorder where children are born with severely underdeveloped or absent thymus gland, leading to very poor T-cell immune function. Affected infants suffer from repeated life-threatening infections from bacteria, viruses, and fungi starting in early infancy. Specialized treatment including bone marrow transplantation may be required for survival.
