About this condition

Blood accumulation in the sac surrounding the heart (pericardium) that is not caused by other classified conditions is a medical emergency requiring immediate intervention. This can happen due to chest trauma, medical procedures, or spontaneously, and the collected blood can compress the heart and prevent it from pumping effectively.
