About this condition

Generalized atherosclerosis occurs when cholesterol and fatty deposits build up inside blood vessels throughout the body, making them narrow and stiff. This reduces blood flow to vital organs like the heart, brain, kidneys and legs. Over time, it increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and poor circulation in limbs.
