About this condition
This stroke happens when a blood clot or other debris travels through the bloodstream and lodges in one of the arteries leading to the brain, cutting off oxygen supply. Unlike clots that form locally, these emboli usually originate elsewhere in the body, often from the heart. Immediate emergency treatment is critical to dissolve or remove the blockage and prevent permanent brain damage.
