About this condition
This type of stroke occurs when an embolus blocks the left vertebral artery, disrupting blood flow to critical areas at the back of the brain. Symptoms typically include severe vertigo, loss of coordination, and problems with balance rather than limb weakness. Since vertebral arteries feed the brainstem which controls breathing and heartbeat, this condition requires immediate emergency medical intervention.
