About this condition
Commonly known as swimmer's itch, this is a skin rash caused by exposure to water contaminated with certain parasites. The parasites penetrate the skin causing an allergic reaction with itching and redness, but they cannot survive in humans and die within the skin. The condition is self-limiting and usually clears up on its own within a few days to a week.
