About this condition
Atheroembolism of the kidney occurs when cholesterol crystals or plaque fragments break off from diseased blood vessels and block the small arteries in the kidneys. This can happen after vascular procedures or spontaneously in people with severe atherosclerosis, leading to sudden kidney damage.
