About this condition
Whipple's disease is a rare bacterial infection caused by Tropheryma whipplei that primarily affects the intestinal system causing chronic diarrhea, weight loss, and malabsorption of nutrients. It can also affect joints, heart, brain, and other organs if left untreated. Long-term antibiotic treatment is required and prognosis is generally good with early diagnosis.
