About this condition
This is a temporary condition affecting newborns whose mothers have an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis. Antibodies from the mother cross the placenta and cause muscle weakness in the baby for a few weeks after birth. Most babies recover completely as the maternal antibodies clear from their system, but they may need supportive care during this period.
