About this condition
This rare condition occurs when one twin loses blood to the other twin while still in the womb, causing the affected newborn to be severely anemic at birth. The baby may appear very pale, have low blood pressure, and require immediate blood transfusion. This is seen in identical twins sharing placental blood vessels.
