About this condition
This is a serious bacterial infection of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord caused by Hemophilus influenzae bacteria. It can rapidly become life-threatening and requires urgent medical attention with antibiotics. Vaccination has greatly reduced cases in India, but it still occurs especially in unvaccinated children.
