About this condition

Congenital viral hepatitis is liver inflammation in newborns caused by viral infections acquired from the mother during pregnancy or delivery. Viruses like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cytomegalovirus, or herpes can infect the baby, causing jaundice, enlarged liver and spleen, and poor feeding. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to prevent serious liver damage and other complications.
