About this condition
Bell's palsy is a sudden weakness or paralysis of one side of the face caused by inflammation of the facial nerve. People wake up to find half their face drooping, unable to close one eye, or difficulty smiling on one side. Most people recover fully within weeks to months with early treatment including steroids and eye protection.
